FLIPPING OUT

The Dietz Racing Team returned to the TW this week after a week of repairs and by nights end, they left with even more. Tim started 8th in heat race number one and after a few laps flipped the 18d while trying to go high in turns one and two on a restart. I guess you could say the Top Shelf got hammered by the Top Shelf. Tim's night was over and he was credited with 10th place in his heat race and a DNS 20th place in the A-main due to the 22 car count. (24 cars needed for a full field)

After the race Tim said..."This was a drivers error on my part. I use the Top Shelf a lot, but I always knew that one of these days it would get me. Today was just that day. We've had a couple bad weeks here and we're really hoping that we can end the season on a good note. We haven't been racing for points this year, just wins. When you do that your a lot more aggressive and accidents like this will happen. We are ready for our luck to turn around though."

DNF AGAIN

The Dietz Racing Team returned to the famous Trail-way Speedway this week after a week off due to rain. Tim started 10th in heat race number two and drove a great race to a strong 2nd place finish. Due to the handicapping system, Dietz would start from the long range 11th starting spot in the A-main. From the drop of the green flag Tim was making things happen and moving up through the field until the third lap. Going down the front stretch Dietz was taken out again for the 2nd time in 3 races as he was pushed into the infield and then sandwiched in turns one and two. Following the quarter pounder, Dietz was floored from behind which caused enough damage to end the night for the 18d and company. He was credited with 19th place on the night.

RAINED OUT AT THE TW

There was no rain, but that didn't stop Trail-way Speedway from calling off the racing for Saturday night. With Thursday nights rain the track called off Friday and Saturday nights racing due to bad track conditions. The race on Saturday wasn't called off till 4 PM which gave Dietz and company little time to prepare to race elsewhere.

FORTH ON THE PATH

Tim and the Dietz Racing Team hit the road on Friday afternoon and visited Path Valley Speedway. Path is a high banked fast paced track that has been rumored to be a smaller version of the famous Eldora Speedway in Ohio. Tim pulled the worst pill in the bin and earned a 9th starting spots in heat race number one. Dietz hammered down and worked his way to the 6th spot after 8 fast laps. In the A-main with the four invert number Dietz started in the 6th position and took it to the top shelf with an occasional cat fish dive to the bottom. Dietz was in the 4th spot and was closing in on the 3rd and 2nd place car when the checkered flag flown.

After the race in the pits Tim said... "This track fast and is so much fun to race on. With the group of guys that race here passing is very hard since we're all fast driving racers. We were hoping for the 6 car invert which would have put us on the pole, but all is good. Maybe we'll land up there next time we visit. Tonight, we'll settle for 4th".

THIRD AT THE TW

Tim and the Dietz Racing Team were back at the big TW on Saturday night and they were looking to rebound from last weeks mishaps. Tim started 6th in heat race number two and drove into the 1st spot and never looked back as he won. In the A-main Dietz started in the his famous 9th position and took it to the top shelf in turns one and two from the start and picked off 5 spots. Twenty non-stop laps later Dietz was in 3rd and was bumper to bumper with the 1st and 2nd place drivers at the finish line.

After the race in the pits Tim said... "This was a much better night for us this week than last week. We either needed a couple more laps or a caution to have had a chance at the victory. We've been close all year in a bunch of races and we'd really like to get on a streak of cashing these close ones in. There are still a ton of races left this year so hopefully we can start doing that."

OVER THE TOP

It was a rough night on the town for the Dietz Racing Team on Saturday night at Trail-way Speedway. Everything the team did just seemed to rub the 18d Probe Chassis the wrong way. Tim started 9th in heat race number and drove into the 3rd position after 8 hard laps. In the A-main Dietz started in the 9th position and took it to the top shelf in turns one and two. Then he tried the bottom in three and four. Finally he tried the middle and realized he was out to lunch. The track settled in completely different than the team had expected and the set-up on the car was completely wrong. Tim fought for positions on the next 15 laps, but simply wasn't going anywhere. On lap 16 while fighting for the inside lane, Dietz got caught between a competitor and the inside burm and rolled the 18d onto its top and then back onto all four. Tim's flip pulled out the red flag and he was towed to the pits and his night was over. Tim was ok and was credited with 18th place on the evening.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Tim and the Dietz Racing Team returned to Hanover's famous TW on Saturday night and were looking to rebound from last weeks issues. After a ton of cleaning the crew figured out the fuel problem at the shop and it really showed when the 18d hit the track. Tim started 7th in heat race number one launched his way into the lead and never looked back. In the A-main Dietz started in the 9th position and took it to the top shelf at the drop of the green. By lap three Tim was in the 3rd position and on a caution restart, he took the 18d again to the high side to make a pass attempt on newest family sprinter Chase Dietz. The pass was a hard one to complete as Tim and Chase touched wheels sending Tim for a high riding wheelie headed straight for the turn 2 wall. Tim managed to keep his Probe Chassis out of the wall, but 6 cars passed him in the process as he fell back to the 9th spot. It was now hammer time as Tim re-drove his way to the 3rd spot and was looking for 2nd when the 20th lap checkered flag flew.

After the race, Tim said "Dang it! Dang it! Dang it! I had that race in my hands and I simply rushed it. There were 17 laps left and plenty of time to pass the final two cars. This was a missed opportunity for us and this one is going to eat at me all week long. My crew had this car hooked up tonight and I think if I had 5 more laps I could have worked my way to the top spot. That sort of thing is hard enough to do once in a night, and we were able to do it twice. We'll be back next week and I'm going to use this week as a lesson learned. Congrats to Travis Scott on his first win. He has a very bright future ahead of him."

ROUGH NIGHT ON THE TRAIL

It was a rough night on the trail for Tim and company Saturday night at Trail-way Speedway. Fuel pump issues all night made for a very long night. Tim started 7th in heat race number one and managed to finish in the 4th spot. After a fuel pump change, Dietz took on the A-main contenders from the 11th starting spot. The 20 lap feature went non-stop in a record time, but the fuel issues struck the 18d again only allowing Tim to advance to the 9th spot at the cross flags. After the race, Tim said "Tonight was a complete 180 from last week. We had a bunch of fuel issues tonight that really put a damper on getting good results. This is a part of the game though. We'll get it figured out this week and get back on track next week".

SECOND BEST AT TRAIL-WAY

It was back to the basics for Tim and company this weekend after the long week of racing last week. Tim started 9th in heat race number one at Trail-way Speedway and picked off a few positions to finish in the 5th spot at the checkered flag. Onto the A-main Tim went along with the other 22 cars in the field. Tim was scheduled to start 8th, but due to a few cars with problems Tim was advanced to the 6th starting spot. From the drop of the green Tim charged his way to the front and found himself in 2nd place by lap 11. With the heavy lap traffic it was only a matter of time till Tim would have worked his way into the led, but a lap 13 caution ended that thought. On the restart Tim shot high and gave a look at the lead, but couldn't make it stick. Seven laps later at the finish line Dietz was still in the runner-up spot. After the race, Tim said "It was a good race between Brian and I. In the end which ever of us got to the front first was bound to win. He beat me there and I tried the high side, but just couldn't get it to stick. We'll take second this time and we'll build from it for the many races that remain here at the TW this season".

SPEEDWEEK 2010 COMPLETE

The long week of racing has come to a close. In many ways all of the Dietz Racing Team is very relieved. As much fun as this week is, it also is very stressful and tiring. The week started off great ad Tim qualified the 18d into the first four races A-mains. On the last leg of the week at the 2 hardest tracks the team fell short. Friday nights A-main was missed by 2 positions and then Saturday night we were just completely out to lunch. Tim landed in the C-main after his two heat races, but after two laps the race was halted due to a serve wreck by fellow racer Jim Garrison. Due to Garrison's condition the remainder of the nights racing was canceled and all the purse money was donated to Garrison's recovery. It was a awful ending to a really good competitive week of good clean racing. Many prayers from the Dietz Racing Team will continue and we all wish Jim to a speedy recovery. Tim and the Dietz Racing Team finished the week long event in 12th place in points out of 125 total cars. Thanks to all that supported us and all of the racers involved in the 2010 PA 600 Speedweek. CRANKED OUT AT TRAIL-WAY

Tim and the Dietz Racing Team returned to Trail-way Speedway on Saturday night after a bye week and two weeks of rain-outs. Prior to that, four weeks ago the team had a motor go down at Path Valley Speedway. The team rebuit the motor, but on Saturday night they realized the crank was bad when Dietz took the car out for warm-ups. The night was over for the team, but the goal was to do a quick test before Speedweek. Tim and company will make some changes to the car this week and return to the track next Saturday night for the Speedweek Series Opener.

Come out and support the team next Saturday night at Trail-way Speedway. Gates open at 4:30 PM and racing starts at 6:30 PM. Hope to see you all there. From there the Team plans to hit up Lincoln Speedway on Sunday the 27th. Check the Schedule page for the entire Speedweek line-up!

RAINED OUT AGAIN AT THE TW

SMOKING HOT AT PATH VALLEY

Tim and the Dietz Racing Team decided to take a road trip to Path Valley Speedway in Silver Run, PA on Friday night to do a litte test and tune session before the speedweek series lands there. With rain in the forecast and lightly falling, only 9 cars decided to take the chance. Tim started 7th out of 9 in the one and only heat race. After 8 hard laps, Dietz finshed in the 4th spot. In the A-main, Tim was inverted to start from the 2nd position. At the drop of the green the 18d was on the move and was making the pass for 1st when the caution flag came out for a car turned over in turn four. On the restart, the leader had a great restart and Tim was fighting as hard as possible to catch up when on lap 9 the motor went up in smoke on the 18d. Tim was credited with 8th place. The test and tune session was good and a lot of things were figured out. In the meantime, the Dietz Racing Team has some rebuilding to do by next weekend.

FAST & VICTORIOUS AT THE TW

What a night it was for Tim and the Dietz Racing Team. After a number of 5th place finishes the team entered Trail-way Speedway on Saturday night determined to break into the top and start filling up the car with some feature winner decals. With the rain from Friday night Tim knew that moisture would be on the track and that usually means one thing to the 18d... that the "Top Shelf' was open for business. Tim would start 5th in the 1st heat race and drove to a 4th place finish. From there, Dietz advanced the to A-main and was slated to start in the 9th spot. From the drop of the green Tim worked his magic on the high side and quickly picked off 4 spots in one lap. By lap 5 he was in 3rd and by lap 9 he was in 2nd. A caution later Dietz worked his way to the top spot and never looked back as he blasted to a half track lead over the rest of the field for his first win of 2010. 5TH PLACE AT SHIPPENSBURG

It was cold, windy and a little rainy in the area, but we got the race in the books at Shippensburg Speedway on Saturday night. High winds closed down many tracks for the night, but as usual...not good old Ship. Tim and the 18d started 2nd in the 3rd heat race and was heading for the lead on lap 3, but got to low in the 4th turn and hit the inside berm tire which ended up sending Dietz to the pits. A jack, a hammer and a few other tools cleared up the damages and the 18d was ready to roll once again. Credited with 7th place in his heat race, Dietz advanced the to A-main due to the 23 car field. In the A-main Tim started in the 18th spot and the bob-n-weave game began. Tim worked his way in and out of some serious traffic on the tight quarters track as he drove the white, blue and red sprinter to the front. The 5th position was as far as he advanced when the checkered flag came out. If it wasn't for the heat race woops than a feature winner decal might have been within reach. All in all the team was very happy with the nights results.

GOOD FIRST NIGHT BACK - 5TH PLACE

After four long weeks off from racing, Tim and the Dietz Racing Team returned to Trail-way Sppedway. It was a beautiful Saturday night and the entire team was very happy to be back. In warm-ups Tim and 18d machine looked good. Tim said he felt great and that his new head and neck restraint system from Defender was really comfortable. Onto the heat racing we went. In the second Heat Race Tim started from the 8th postion. There wasn't much passing available and the dry and rutty track didn't help much, but Tim managed to drive to a 6th place finish. In the A-main Dietz started in the 12th spot and at the drop of the green tried the "top shelf", but nothing was there as Tim dropped back 4 spots. Tim regrouped and the new American Racer tires provided by our new sponsor really came to life as Tim passed 11 cars in 20 laps for a 5th place finish.

In the pits after the race Tim said..."It felt great to be back out here and to be able to compete. I felt great and the car was really good. It was a great night for this team and we're very excited for the weeks to come. I have a blank panel here that needs some feature winner stickers so we hope to start collecting some very soon. Thank you to all that came out and supported us tonight."

DIETZ DOWN AND OUT

Wow, what a past couple of days. After our crash on 4/3, we were able to finish the feature. I did have muscle tightness in my neck, but didn’t think much of it. We continued to get the car ready for this past weekend (4/10) but, as the week progressed my pain became more substantial. I tried a chiropractor and it didn’t seem to help. By Thursday of that week I was in such pain I couldn’t do much of anything. I was able to get in and see my family doctor. She prescribed me some different medications and sent me to physical therapy on Friday morning. That Friday, luckily I was off work, as Candace and myself were suppose to be getting the house ready for an open house that Sunday. (Speaking of which if anyone out there is looking for a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, with a 2 car garage, I have the place for you!) At physical therapy, they thought at this point, I could have a herniated disc in my neck. I was sent for x-rays and an MRI that day. Luckily the X-rays came back negative, but on the MRI it showed that I have a bulging disc between my C6 and C7 vertebrae. I’ve also lost much of the strength in my right arm. (Not that I was that strong to begin with!)

With this a team meeting was held and after much thought, we’ve decided to sit out for a few weeks and wait until I’m in a better condition to race. My original thought was to put someone in the car so the sponsors would still be seen. After some discussion with several of them, they told me that they are sponsoring me, not the car and that they want me to be the one driving it. For this I must thank, Brookmere Winery and Vineyard Inn, Keith Smith Concrete, Gardy Enterprises, Mark’s Automotive, Baublitz’s Heating and Cooling, Arter Graphics, Kess Body Shop, Probe Chassis, BK Flanary Plumbing, L&J Painting, Guhl Motors, The Dust Kitties, and of course Kuhn Auto Electric.

I’ve always been the person to resist on safety equipment. I never thought about it. I can honestly say that this year I’ve got the safest car that I’ve ever driven. This is in part to Probe Chassis superior design, a full containment seat, and a head and neck restraint system. With all of this, I still managed to get beat up. I’ve sat out before but, never due to an injury. In the mean time, I’ll still be at Trailways every week helping my cousin, Chase Dietz #86d and also a good friend of the Dietz Racing Team, JB Cunningham in the #7c. If anyone else needs help with anything please don’t hesitate to ask, as we are all willing to help.

At this point, our goal is to be back by the middle of June. We’ll be ready for PA 600 Speedweek. Our goal is to run the entire week and as many races as possible until the end of the year. Special thanks has to go out to my wife, Candace for helping me through this situation. Also, my Mom and Dad for all the support and getting me the tools I need. Special thanks also to Les Baublitz for all the time, money, and effort. Thanks to Dan Arter for the great website. Robyn Dietz, my sister, for all the support. If it weren’t for these people I’d never make it to the races. Oh yeah, one more person, my son Jaiman, who is three, is the best tire consultant available. He’ll be fielding tire questions every week at Trailways until we are back.

Thank you all for the support and we’ll see everyone at the track!

A HARD FOUGHT 8TH PLACE

It was another beautiful Saturday and the warmest one to date to start off night racing at Trail-way Speedway. Tim and the Dietz Racing team were excited to race after getting the car in proper driving order last week. Tim started off the night in the first heat race. Starting in the 5th spot, Dietz took it to the high side.. also known as the "Top Shelf" and passed a few cars to finish 2nd. Into the A-main the 18d would go. Starting in 9th the chances were looking good for the first 2010 win, but on the drop of the green Tim got cause up in a pile-up and had to restart the race from the rear of the field. On the restart Dietz quickly moved up to 15th and by lap 6 he was up to 10th. On lap 11 Tim was up to 9th and by lap 15 he was in 8th. Five laps later the 18d machine was still in 8th and would finish there. The team was happy to be able to get top ten finish after going to the rear of the field. Tim and company will build on this weeks race and look to improve next week.

5TH PLACE VS THE PRO SERIES

Tim and the Dietz Racing team joined 49 other cars at Trail-way Speedway on Saturday afternoon for the 600 Pro Series Race 1 of 10. With a week a washing, the 18d was clean of last weeks bugs and it was fast. The Pro Series uses the Sprint Bandit format which places each driver in 2 heat races and the driver accumulates passing and finishing points. The more points you get, the better start you will have in the A-main. Tim started 6th in the second heat race of the day and and picked off two spots to finish 4th. Later in the afternoon, in the seventh heat race Dietz finished 3rd from the 5th starting spot. Accumulating enough points on the day to advance directly to the A-main, Tim drove from the 10th starting spot to 5th after 25 hard laps. "The car was awesome today. We took a few chances with our set-up for the A-main, but it really paid off as it came in at the end. We were a rocket, and if there were a few laps left or if there would have been an eariler caution towards the end, we could have had a chance. All in all, it was a great day for the Dietz Racing Team", said Dietz after the race.

OPENING DAY BUGS

The 2010 season has arrived and the opening day bugs were in the air. Tim and the Dietz Racing team had the car all shined up and ready to roll on Saturday morning at Trail-way Speedway, but during warm-ups the team realized that there were a few bugs in the car. The 18d rolled into the pits with a clogged injector. The team hurried to find and fix the problem, but they couldn't resolve the issue by heat racing time. The crew skipped heat race number one and had the car ready for the consi. In the consi, Tim started 10th and made all the right moves up to the 3rd position with one lap to go. On the last lap in turn four, Tim squeeked by good friend Kody Lehman to take 2nd and advance to the A-main. In the A-main Tim started 23rd and was up to the 15th spot by lap 6, but had to pull the car into the pits due to another clogged injector. With the goal of the day of just getting laps on the car and not worring about points or positions, the team played it safe rather than hurting the motor or other parts due to the injection problem. Tim was credited with 23rd place on the day. Back to the shop the crew will go and hopefully next week the bugs will be gone.
